We are thinking about getting one for our house. I called ADT and they charge $630 for the installation alone! Protection One, on the other hand, only charges about $150. What’s the difference? Is the security system worth the money? Is it a hassle? Etc?

We’re looking to set up an inexpensive network security camera in our home. I already have ethernet wiring in most of the house, and a Windows 2003 server that could run any software required to record video. I’m looking for a fairly inexpensive IP-based security camera. Any recommendations ?

I had a sales rep offer me free installation and equipment. He said there was no upfront cost, only paying the monthly payment. I was quoted $39 a month plus tax which comes to about $44 a month. I live in a townhome and was told I would be able to get at least 10% off my personal property insurance because of the home security. Does this sound like a good deal? How’s the quality of Firstline compared to ADT or Brinks? Are they reliable. I’m located in Minnesota and seem not to have a local office. Should I be worried if something were to happen with no technicans to come fix it asap?

For discouraging intruders what have you found to be the best method/device? My ideas so far have been a motion sensor alarm system, an iron gate, a dog (?), a security camera and/or notices or stickers. What do you think is best?

Lost of crime in my neighbor and interested in home camera surveillance. Is it expensive and is it worth it?

Hi there, I have a Yale home security system. If I was to set up some light switches that turn on and off automatically at certain times, whilst the alarm is armed, does the alarm PIR sensors pick up the light turning on all of a sudden out of darkness? Or do the sensors only detect movement in solid objects?
